Asleep at the Switch?

A BSMW Messageboard reader found this sentence in the Red Sox notebook by Adam Kilgore and Nick Cafardo today about Red Sox third base coach DeMarlo Hale’s interview with the Seattle Mariners:

If the Mariners choose Hale, he will join the Rangers’ Ron Washington as the only African-American major league managers.

Is this off the top of their head?

Dusty Baker, Cecil Cooper, Cito Gaston and Jerry Manuel are all waving hello.

The number of simple factual errors that pour through the Globe sports desk is amazing. The editors seem to have no sense of the topics they are responsible for.

I’m sure it was a little busy at the Globe last night (you think?), not enabling a copy editor to check facts as he or she normally would.
I’m also sure most of you (not all, but most of you) in the peanut gallery, while very eagle-eyed sitting at the kitchen table eating your Golden Grahams, wouldn’t last very long under the deadlines of a major metro daily.
OK, you caught a mistake…if it bothers you, write for a correction. If not, don’t act like you discovered the cure for some disease. It happens at every paper, and on every website, in the country, all the time.

I wonder how this could have been made. Maybe only one in the American League west division? Who knows. That’s as bad as they come, editor should have picked up that one eh?
