Coming off the major health issues he went through last season, this is certainly good news.

NESN and longtime Red Sox color analyst Jerry Remy have agreed to a multi-year contract extension.

“I am truly fortunate to have been part of the NESN family for the past 23 years and that relationship will continue into the future,” said Remy. “I feel I have the best job in the world broadcasting Red Sox Baseball.

In 1988 Remy was hired by NESN as a color analyst to work alongside legendary Red Sox play-by-play voice Ned Martin. For the past 10 years Don Orsillo has been Remy’s partner in the NESN booth. A 4-time New England Emmy Award winner for sports play-by-play, Remy has also received numerous individual honors including being voted Massachusetts’ favorite TV announcer by Sports Illustrated.

The popular announcer will work his 3,000th Red Sox game this Sunday, July 25th.

  2. They'd be out of their minds not to re-up Remy. Just imagine having Joe Morgan, Hawk Harrelson, Tim McCarver or someone like them……….and they're the best ones. Think of all the flotsam and jetsam from last year. Eck was the best, but I don't think he wanted the job..

  3. Remy is fine, but let's get rid of DO. He tries too hard to be Remy's pal. Sean McDonough was so much better.

    2. McDonough got too big for his britches. I think he forgot who was signing his paycheck. Plus I think when Wil died a lot of people took out their revenge on Sean for all of the bullying that Wil dished out.

  4. Not only is Jerry very good at what he does, but he can put the Wally doll in different positions in an Adirondack chair.

  5. Remy's real good when he wants to be, but there's a lot of times I think he's bored and mails it in. Or at least doesn't seem to enjoy what he's doing. Hard to tell without really knowing the guy, but it's just an observation. Plus, I've heard he's not always the most warm-and-fuzzy guy.

    2. So I take it you believe Belichick shouldn't be coaching football or have a radio show because he doesn't always come across as being the most warm and fuzzy guy? It makes me want to hug my Leo Buscaglia doll even more.

      1. OK, so instead of beating around the bush, I'll come out and say it that I've heard he's a jerk from more than one person, and I think he comes off arrogant in his analysis and his jerk-like personality is noticeable on the broadcasts. Feel better now?

        1. don't know if I feel better……I just don't agree…..Jerry Remy comes off as "arrogant " on the broadcasts??……I ain't feelin' it……and if he is a jerk off camera, I don't really care……..it wasn't in my future plans to go hang out with him.

  6. Its always comforting hearing from an "old friend" and having Remy on the broadcasts provides that element of comfort. But listen closely to Remy's commentary, and 80% of the time he's simply rehashing time-worn platitudes or repeating exactly what the listeners just saw on their screen. You can bash Tim McCarver all you want, but I often feel like I've learned something new about the game when listening to him….I dont feel that way at all with Remy.
