We’re on day two of full-time Cedric Maxwell coverage on WEEI.
The media has not covered themselves in glory with this story. From Channel 7 using video of Robert Parish instead of Maxwell last night, to AOL sports confusing Maxwell with M.L. Carr, most outlets have focused only on the sensationalism of the story, while not giving the whole picture. Some outlets have edited the sequence and context of the quotes, while most have not explained the Tommy Heinsohn connection.
While I agree with WEEI’s stance on Maxwell’s comments, they’re really doing what they do best…overkill.
ESPN held a conference call this afternoon to announce that Bill Parcells is officially joining the network.
Parcells will appear on Monday Night Countdown (7-8:30 p.m. ET), SportsCenter and other programs from ESPN’s Bristol, Conn., studios as ESPN gets fans ready for each week’s Monday Night Football game. Parcells will also contribute weekly columns to ESPN.com and co-host a new ESPN Radio show with Chris Mortensen Fridays at 7 p.m. during the NFL season.
Parcells cited his good relationship with people at ESPN as a reason that he was comfortable coming back to the network. He hopes to add what he brings from a coaches perspective to the programs, and using his experience from many years in the league to help educate the NFL viewers. He mentioned that he considered one other offer, but his relationship with ESPN won out in the end.
Parcells will not be involved significantly with the Sunday programming, as the network attempts to really emphasize the importance of Monday Night Football and use his talent, knowledge and experience there.
Richard Sandomir of the New York Times asked Parcells in jest if he thought this was the last time he was going to be coming back to TV. Parcells said it certainly would be.
After coming back from the combine, Tom Casale puts together a Patriots mock draft.
Len Pasquarelli has his top 30 free agents who might be interested in them. Daniel Graham is the only Patriots free agent on the list, and Pasquarelli does not list the Patriots with any of the players.
Don Banks also weighs in on the NFL free agent market.
Eric Wilbur isn’t a fan of Manny Ramirez, and doesn’t like those who blame the media for chronicling his various episodes.
I missed this column a couple of days ago from Terry Nau looking at spring training coverage and asking if too much time is spent on the same old tired stories.
Kevin Brockway of the Gainsville Sun has a look at Dick Vitale apologizing to Gators coach Billy Donovan for comments made inadvertently on a radio station comparing the NBA draft status of Gators Joakim Noah and Al Horford.
