It was a somewhat odd

It was a somewhat odd scene during the top of the 6th inning of the Red Sox game as John W. Henry, Mike Port, Theo Epstein and Larry Lucchino piled onto the NESN set at Fenway to join host Bob Rodgers in talking about the Red Sox newest acquisition Cliff Floyd. I guess making the announcement together fits with their team image. In the past we’d probably just see Dan Duquette saying “We’re pleased to be adding a player of Cliff Floyd’s ability to our ballclub, I think the fans will really like him.” Now we get the entire front office on live TV at 11:30 at night. They made mention that they will try to sign Floyd beyond this season and he does have a history with John W. Henry from his time with the Marlins. The Sox other principal owner Tom Werner joined the broadcast in Anaheim during the 8th inning. Called Floyd “a ballplayer’s ballplayer”. Werner mentioned that worry that the Yankees might get Floyd was part of the equation. He said he hopes this deal shows the fans that they are willing to spend for a winner. He said he had got together with Nomar’s mother while he’s been out there in California. She enjoyed the Ted Williams tribute and seeing her son involved in it. Werner added that the Sox have a very competitive schedule in August and Floyd will help with that.
