Tom Caron serves as Red Sox studio host for NESN.

The Lewiston, Maine native was a journalism major at  Saint Michael’s College in Vermont. He began his television career as an intern during his junior year in college at WPTZ-TV in Plattsburgh, NY, where he reported on the  Montreal Canadiens and Montreal Expos. Jobs at WNNE-TV in Hanover, NH, and WGME-TV in Portland, ME followed. He joined WPXT-TV in Portland in 1993, and was the radio play-by-play man for the AHL Portland Pirates.

In 1995 he joined NESN as co-host of “Front Row,” a nightly sports magazine program. (Kristen Mastroianni was his co-host.) He also hosted the Bruins telecasts from 1997 to 2004, and was a Red Sox reporter during games. After two years on the road with the team, Caron became the studio host for the Red Sox telecasts.

Caron has also done play-by-play for NESN’s Hockey East telecasts. Caron is a frequent fill-in on WEEI. He writes a weekly sports column for the Portland Press Herald.

  1. I'd be very interested in hearing from the two people (at press time) that have voted "disapprove." Then again, I could give away $10,000 to every reader of this site and someone would still disapprove.

    1. I disapprove of him being on the radio because he sucks at it and has no opinions. He's fine as a pre and post game red sox guy on NESN.

    2. I don't dislike him/ didn't downvote him, but he needs to STOP YELLING ALL THE TIME. It's maddening.

  2. Tom is great at what he does and seems the most genuine of all media persons in the market. What is to disapprove, I don't get these people that do.

  3. I'm a disapprover. Tom's not bad but I just think NESN could do better. To me, on a scale of one to ten he's a six or seven. If he got replaced I don't think I'd remember who the guy was in a year or two and I've been watching him since his first days. Nothing about him is memorable to me. His WEEI appearances aren't must listen radio either.

  4. I'd like Tom a lot more if he slowed down his pacing. Sometimes he spits out his phrases in hard-to-understand bursts.

  5. Love TC. Interviewed a much younger Funk Family in Tampa in 2003. Hung with us prior to going on air and sat with us for a while chatting afterward. Good guy – approve!!

  6. Tom is a class act and genuinely nice guy who is good at his job and works well with whoever he's paired with. Being a native New Englander it's obvious he likes the local Boston teams and is also fan just like the rest of us. Definite Approve.
