On Northeast Radio Watch, Scott Fybush has a wrapup of the top 10 events in radio in the Northeast over the last year. A last-minute addition is 10A on the list and is as follows:

We don't normally expect to be adding a big story to the site on New Year's Eve afternoon - but when news breaks, we're here with it. Had it gone through as planned, the deal between Nassau and Entercom to expand the reach of Entercom's Boston-based WEEI sports format would have been an interesting piece of programming news, and not much more. The plan called for Nassau stations in several Northern New England markets, as well as Cape Cod, to begin carrying most of WEEI's programming - and for Entercom to take a 50% interest in Nassau's classical WCRB (99.5 Lowell) in the Boston market. Nassau had already started moving some of its formats around to make room for the move (see "December" in the programming section, below) - but now there's word that Nassau and Entercom were unable to close the deal, and now the arrangement is history. Will Entercom look to offer WEEI programming to other, non-Nassau stations in 2008? And what will become of WCRB? We'll be watching...

You’ll recall that Entercom stepping in and agreeing to purchase that % of the Nassau stations was a big factor in the return of John Dennis and Gerry Callahan to the WEEI airwaves last September. It was rumored that a possible regional sports network made up of the Nassau stations might be courting the morning duo, providing some bidding competition to Entercom in the contract talks between D&C and the company.
