If the Celtics are going to win banner 17, they’re going to have win on the road.

The Detroit Pistons made that a reality last night as they won game two of the Eastern Conference Finals at the Garden, 103-97. Mark Murphy says that defensive breakdowns was what did in the Celtics last night. Marc J. Spears has the Celtics fully aware of the challenge ahead of them after last night’s home loss. Kevin McNamara has the Garden party coming to an end for the Celtics with the loss last night. Scott Souza has the Pistons serving as homewreckers at the Garden last night. Paul Doyle has relying on home court advantage catching up with the Celtics. Bill Doyle has the Celtics fit to be tied right now. Jim Fenton says that the Celtics have a major problem on their hands after losing the home court edge. Jeff Howe says the loss last night sets the Celtics up for their two biggest games of the season this weekend.

  1. Class and professionalism? From Detroit? I’ll give him a pass because he’s Bob Ryan, but he needs to pay attention to the games. Billups kicked Eddie House in the junk on a jumper last night and has yet to drive to the hoop and NOT push off. Hamilton is a hack and a flopper, the only reason he’s not universally hated for this like Parker/Ginobli is because he’s American. And then you have Rasheed Wallace. Nuff said.
    It still amazes me that on a team with 3 ‘stars’ the C’s still don’t get the benefit of that from the stripes. Watch the calls Hamilton and Billups get in Detroit in Game 3. Fun fact, in only 3 games so far this postseason (out of 16) the C’s have gone to the line more than their opponent.

  3. Bruce, please take this as the constructive criticism for which it is intended.

    I think most of us regulars to BSMW are by now familiar with Massarotti’s recent column ripping Boston sports fans and many of us have commented on it here. As we move forward from that it might be best not to hyperlink to Tony’s column today by giving him a cute nickname. He said it, many folks here know he said it and have an opinion on his abilities based in part on it.

    I’ve always thought of your commentaries as being somewhat objective and your name-calling here just seems out of line IMO. As Sean McDonough used to say on his WWZN talk show, try to stay ‘above the bar’.

    Otherwise, keep up the good work.

  4. It wasn’t name calling; it was a reminder. The referenced column was perhaps the most vile of its type ever seen by these eyes. A reference a few days later isn’t even the tiniest bit out of bounds; in fact, in the interest of balance to your comment, some may consider the cute nickname a public service.
