New Englanders take to losing about as well as fish take to land: beyond your occasional mudskipper or lungfish, it does not tend to work out well. After two losses in a row, you'd think the Patriots had fallen out of playoff contention. In our Second-Quarter Review, we predicted 3-1 at the worst, noting that … Continue reading Patriots 2015 Third-Quarter Review
Two articles, same paper. (h/t Kevin) Shank Today: How many more weeks can we count on the other guys mismanaging the clock, making stupid decisions, overthrowing open receivers, clanging field goal attempts off the uprights, dropping passes in the end zone, and botching interceptions? How many more times does the Tom Brady interception get called … Continue reading Ripped From The Forums…
Anything but the games. It seems like that's the focus on the New England Patriots at times. Coming off one of the most compelling regular-season games of the Brady-Belichick era, some of the biggest stories this week have instead been about the actions of Brady and Belichick. We've had Chuck Klosterman's completely mind-numbing article on … Continue reading Another Week of Mini-Controversies For Patriots
He began his Red Sox career with Dan Shaughnessy calling him "a giant sack of you-know-what" on multiple media outlets. (He'll try to deny it, but it happened. I heard them myself.) He looks to end his Red Sox career attempting to bring a fourth World Series championship to Boston since 2004. Yet, when word … Continue reading David Ortiz Calling It A Career After 2016
In our First Quarter Review, we figured New England would have some trouble with the Jets, but should take care of their other three opponents without much drama. The Patriots outlasted the over-thinking Colts in Indianapolis, 34-27. Then they hung tough against the aforementioned Jets, 30-23, in a game that had more drops than a bottle … Continue reading Patriots 2015 Second-Quarter Review
I don't know how it is possible, but on the occasions that I'm turning on WEEI these days, I am inevitably hearing Gary Tanguay. Why? What is he possibly bringing to the table except predictable contrarianism? I firmly believe that WEEI had a golden opportunity to make up a little ground against 98.5 the SportsHub … Continue reading The Gary Tanguay Experience Continues To Mystify
With the Patriots off to a 7-0 start, the media strategy this year seems to involve talking up that week's opponent (at least one that looks more than half-decent on paper), point out their strengths, and speculate on how they can beat New England. The more exuberant the prediction, the funnier it gets. Much like … Continue reading Yoiks, And Away!
The Celtics began their march to 82-0 last night with an opening night win over the Philadelphia 76ers at the Garden. Isaiah Thomas, Celtics go deep in opening win - Steve Bulpett has the scoring guard coming off the bench to drop 27 points in 27 minutes of play. Opening-night rout fuels Celtics’ optimism - Adam Himmelsbach has … Continue reading Celtics Start Season Right, Patriots Facing Newest Media Darling Coach Tonight
Since there's nothing of interest going on sports-wise around Boston, the continued efforts by some of the on-air media "personalities" to stir things up and make themselves the story makes sense. Right? The sad fact is, good old media on media crime gets people's attention. It gets them talking about the outlets, about the personalities, … Continue reading Midweek Thoughts, Media on Media Crime Edition
It wasn't quite the destruction many were expecting, but the Colts did still manage to embarrass themselves last night. The Patriots defeated the Colts 34-27 in Indianapolis thanks in part to a disastrous fake punt attempt by the Colts, who were in desperation mode all night, having previously attempted a first-half on-sides kick. The Patriots … Continue reading Patriots Manage Disappointing Road Win Against AFC Finalist
