After 25 games, the Bruins finally won back-to-back contests with a 3-1 win over the Buffalo Sabres last night at TD Garden. Johnny Boychuk played a huge role in the win with a thunderous hit and the game-winning goal.

B’s getting back on the right track – Joe Haggerty says that the Bruins are finally free of the muck and mire.

Bruins think they’re starting to roll – James Murphy says that the Bruins have been building on a consistent effort since the loss to the Rangers last Sunday.

When greatness comes in threes – Jackie MacMullan has a really tremendous column today in which Larry Bird, Kevin McHale and Robert Parish talk about their final days together, and the final days of the KG/Pierce/Allen Big Three. I especially love the account of Robert Parish’s showdown with Michael Jordan when the Chief joined the Bulls for his final season.

In one of his first practices with the Bulls, Parish botched one of the plays and was amused to find Jordan jawing at him just inches from his face.

“I told him, ‘I’m not as enamored with you as these other guys. I’ve got some rings too,’ ” Parish recalled. “At that point he told me, ‘I’m going to kick your ass.’ I took one step closer and said, ‘No, you really aren’t.’ After that he didn’t bother me.”

Middlebrooks on track, but how quickly? – Nick Cafardo looks at how soon the third-base prospect might find himself in the big leagues.

Lloyd ‘very interested’ in hearing Patriots’ pitch – Tom E Curran had an exclusive sitdown with free agent receiver Brandon Lloyd, who reaffirmed his love for Josh McDaniels and expressed his desire to come here, even for less money.

Very little left to fix in NCAA coverage – Chad Finn’s media column looks at the tournament coverage from CBS and Turner, and also says that if you enjoy the politics-free Dennis and Callahan show, you can thank Jeff Brown, Entercom’s vice president and market manager. He has a few other notes of interest as well.

Media Roundup: Ian Rapoport (A.K.A. Rapsheet) Will Be Missed – In my SB Nation Boston media column, I look at how the Boston Herald owes Ian Rapoport a debt of gratitude for rescuing the beat for the paper after the Spygate/Tomase fiasco.

Tuning In: Dad, son … different eras of fandom – Bill Doyle compares how he and his college-age son watch and consume sports differently.

  1. Anyone see the story on Yahoo today about ESPN editing Bill Simmons podcast with Mark Cuban. Apparently Cuban tried to make a joke about Simmons being gay. The main theme of the story is that ESPN edited the podcast so that Cuban, who is frequently on the network, would not look bad. I’m wondering if that part of it could be that the notoriously thin skinned Simmons simply didn’t like being dissed on his own podcast.

Just a thought as I wait for the clock to hit 5 on a Friday.

  2. Bruce et al…I thought the throw away line in Chad Finn’s piece about Dale Arnold and John Riche was also very interesting. If Dale is not going to be the fill in play by play guy for the sox…WHY DID HE AGREE TO AN EXTENSION? It can’t be to be #1 fill-in.

    1. Dale probably sees that given that 98.5 is still beating them in the ratings there might be another shake up particularly during the day.
