Ray Allen makes Heat wave – Bulpett also had reported that the Celtics were a hard push on Allen, attempting to meet his concerns by offering a no-trade clause or trade kicker into his contract.

Most media seem to think Allen is gone, A Miami TV station even reported Allen had signed with the Heat, but it turned out they were fooled by a fake Twitter account. This was the same station which jumped the gun on Derrick Rose’s torn ACL, reporting it, and then retracting it. In that case, they were lucky it turned out to be true.

  1. I have been listening to the Ortiz contract saga for several days now and I am absolutely amazed at the ability of the local media to take a seemingly simple (albeit highly personal thing for Ortiz) and completely misunderstand it.

    Ortiz problem is that he wants to get paid for past performance. The Sox, want to pay him for future production. Ortiz, at least publicly seems to have selected memory when it comes to recalling the facts of his last few contract negotiations and what options he had. Further he seems preoccupied with money spent on free agents, not realizing the Sox have made him the highest paid player at his position in the league for several years now.

    Its easy to see both sides of the question. Non other than Kirk Minihane did probably the best job (either echoing or echoed by Rob Bradford) defining both sides. What is mystifying is why Ortiz seems so intent to shoot his way out of town? But with each outburst he makes fans think he is yet another spoiled pampered athlete who has no clue how the real world works.

    I thought the Sox made a huge mistake bringing him back for $14 mill when he would not have gotten any more than $8 mill on the open market. Now he is claiming disrespect. Perhaps they should not offer him another contract because it is not like they are winning with all of his great hitting now…they can lose without it just as easily.

  2. Let’s hope the Sox get swept or lose 3 of 4. Hopefully that’ll finally be enough to sink in the fact that this team is not going to challenge for any championship and enable Cherington to start removing more of the old pieces.

    1. I don’t think they’ll be moving anyone. The way this FO operates, they’ll be thinking that they’re “acquiring” Ellsbury, Crawford and Bailey at the deadline.

  3. Yay! Be prepared for 4 games that will likely last a combined 20 hours of baseball between the Sawx/Yanks! Who knows, when it is all said and done, there could be a full day’s worth of baseball played between the two teams. These game always go much too long, and the venom of the rivalry has disappeared. Maybe Bobby V can get something going as he seems to enjoy ruffling feathers (at least with his own players).

  8. The flash guy (producer?) on Bertran & Gasper show on Saturday fell for the fake Twitter report that Derrick Rose re-injured is ACL. He corrected it a couple minutes later but how can someone in the media report that without checking facts?
